Panels for this lamp are based on photographs of
trees in Jackson Park, Chicago.
Each photograph was taken at high contrast and "thresholded"
to convert it to a single, laser-cuttable shadow.
This project was personally gratifying.
The search for distinct, legible images of each season
drew me and my young son into nature for several hours
each week pver the course of more than a year.
In particular, the image for fall eluded me in the first pass.
I waited another year to capture a scene whose withered foliage
offered a clear contrast to the first flush of spring.
